Ход урока

I hope our gests will have an enjoyable time with us.

Our goal is to get to know as much as possible about different kind of profession, about abilities, skills and to make a plan about your future profession.

1. Speak on the topic

Let’s read these quotations and explain them.

If a man wishes to improve himself, let him improve his work. Труд – это лучший инструмент для самосовершенствования. Develop yourself: abilities, skills, talents.

Qualifications save explanations. Профессионализм говорит сам за себя.

If you are a skilled person you shouldn’t explain that you work well only do all the best.

A worker should be given his pay.Трудящийся достоин пропитания.

Gess the topic of our lesson.

First of all, I`d like to find the difference between the words: work / job / profession.

Work – means to have a job, to do the job that you are paid for.

Profession – a job that needs a special education and training. If you want to get good profession you should study a lot.

Study the combination: by profession/choose smth as a profession.

Here are the examples: What is your mother by profession? Will you choose law as a profession?

Job – the regular paid work that you do for an employer.

Study the expressions: get/find, take/accept, Saturday/summer/holiday job

Study the examples: Did you work a holiday job this summer?

Let’s talk a little bit about work.

Nowadays there is a lot of unemployment so it is getting more and more difficult to get the kind of job you really want. Then you have to decide what is more important to you and how much you want to earn. Do you want to work with your hands (called manual work) or do you prefer to work in an office? Do you prefer to work indoors or outdoors?

At the end of the school you must choose a job which helps you in your life. Now you should think about it. Your teachers, parents, friends advice you what kind of job you should choose. Today at our lesson we’ll try to discuss what the best way to have a job, what skills and abilities are needed to be successful in it. You’ll do some exercises, quiz.

What qualities or skills should somebody have to get a good job?

education             a sharp mind            physical strength            dedicate

There are many interesting, useful and noble professions. Name the words of professions in chain.  But do it quickly.

After that let’s play a game snow-ball and all the words in your mind and add yours.

Thank you, now you know a lot of professions, but do you know how to write them?

3. Anagram.

Very good! I’m sure that you can write a letter to your pen-friend and use these words correctly!

4. Let’s define the words – who is a teacher, who is a ….     .

5. What qualities should people have according to their professions?

F. ex.:

a lion tamer should be sporty and brave.

A pilot should be well educated, intelligent, to know Math well, healthy and brave..

Sales assistant should be friendly, attentive and to be a good helper for customers..

A doctor should be well educated, intelligent, to know psychology well, caring…

A teacher should be well educated, intelligent, kind, caring, dedicated to chosen profession…

Pizza delivery boy should be sporty, fast, friendly, …

A graphic designer should be creative,

Thank you! Now you know some qualities that peopleshould have according to their professions!

6. Now let’s use the words of this topic in ex. 2a, then listen and check. We’ll see how to use the words about professions correctly.

How many mistakes have you got?

Have you got any questions?

7. Now, look at the dialogue in ex. 3 and complete it. After that let’s listen and check. (1 min.).

Let’s read and check.

8. Let’s play a game "Guess my job” – describe your profession, say positive and negative moments, but you shouldn’t name it. Don’t tell the name. The words in ex.1 and ex. 2b will help you. (Are you good at…?)

Thank you! Now you can describe the profession.

9. At the lesson we’ve discussed different professions, qualification and skills. Let’s make your own dialogue about your future profession. (3 min.).

  1. Have you made up your mind what to be in the future?

  2. When did you begin making plans for the future?
